German Sauna in Cologne - Mediterana Therme
ケルン初日の晩、夕食を食べに行った地元のビアホールでたまたま横に座っていたおじさんが「日本人ですか？」と話しかけてきた。長年日本の会社と仕事をしていたらしく、日本人の気質や文化について色々と話をしていたところ、「なんでまたケルンに来たの？」と不思議な顔で尋ねられたので、間髪入れず「ドイツサウナを体験しにきました！」と答えた。すると「だったらMediterana Thermeに行ってみて。ケルンで僕が一番好きなサウナだから」と教えてくれた。場所はチェックしていたものの、レビューもなかったので、そんな良い施設とは知らずノーマークだったのですが、地元人がオススメするとあれば行ってみるしかないと早速行ってみました！
When Yumi and I were at a local beerhall on the first night in Koln, a middle-aged guy sitting next to us started chatting with us as he could recognize us that we're Japanese. When he asked us a question, "Why did you decide to come to Koln? for a beer?" We responded immediately saying "No, we are here for SAUNA" He giggled and highly recommended us a sauna spa called Mediterana. The place was on my list but I haven't done enough research for it. I always trust local's advice when traveling so we decided to go check out Mediterana!
ケルン市街から電車を乗り継いで最寄りの駅(Bergisch Gladbach, Lückerath Neuenweg)につくと、このようなサインを発見！Mediteranaは公園の中にあるので公園の脇のお散歩コースのような道を５分ほど歩いていくと、どーん！到着しました！
Mediterana is located in a suburb so we took a train to the closest station called Bergisch Gladbach, Lückerath Neuenweg. We spotted this sign on the quiet path along a park and walked for about 5mins, then we finally got here!
「Mediterana」というその名の通り、ザ・地中海スタイルの建物で映画のはりぼてみたいな入り口。日曜日だったということもあり、駐車場はいっぱい。ローカルに人気だってことは、きっといいサウナである証拠だなと期待値上がりました。
As it names, the building is very much like a Mediterranean style. The facade actually looks like a cheesy movie set though. The parking lot was full with cars so we thought it's a good sign that this place is very much loved by the locals. It got us excited!
迷わず一日滞在券を購入し、入り口ゲートを入るとスパ関連のグッズを売っているショップがありました。インテリアは、地中海風を基調にしつつオリエンタルをミックスした、、、ごちゃ混ぜ、というか西洋人がみる東洋スタイルが再現されていました。ヒマラヤソルトのライトから、お香やアロマキャンドルまで、世界中の癒しグッズが販売されていましたが、やはりお値段は高めでした。
With having a day pass, we stepped into the spa heaven! There is a gift/souvenir shop where it sells an eclectic selection of the healing goods collected from all over the world such as Himalayan salt lights, oriental pattern lamps, and aroma candles. To me, the shop is an interesting mix of "West meets East"decor but the price range seems a bit high.
予約制のスパの入り口。ザ・シンメトリーなインテリア。Mediterranean meets 大仏さま。斬新なミックス具合だけど、なんだかしっくり馴染んでいるのが不思議。
This is an entrance to private massage rooms. I was intrigued by an interesting mix of "Mediterranean meets Buddha statues" style decor. They somehow sit together well. haha.
ドイツのサウナ施設はマナーを大切にしているので、もちろん携帯を持ち歩くこと自体はNGだったのですが、サウナジャーナリスト魂にかけて、ここでもこっそりと潜入レポートを。この写真は屋外の離れにあるサウナに向かうアプローチ部分なのですが、ととのいまくった状態でこの幻想的なライトアップみてたらここは天国かと完全に錯覚しました。（奥はライトアップされた屋外プール）とにかく、素敵すぎ。大人の楽園です。
Mediteranaにはサウナだけでも16種類以上、温水プールがあちらこちらに6個以上、休憩室もあちらこちらにあって、1日では全てを網羅しきれませんでした。実際、私たちは30分ごとにあちらこちらのサウナ室で行われるアウフグースを体験するために、走り回ってました！w。究極のリラクゼーション、ととのい体験を求めてきたのにもか関わらず、分刻みでアウフグースを求めてダッシュするという、楽しすぎてアホほど貪欲で欲にまみれたのでした。
Carrying a cell phone is absolutely prohibited in this place, yet, I had to document at least some photos of the gorgeous beautiful sauna building as a self-entitled as a World Sauna Coordinator/Writer. The first picture above was taken at night in the hallway that connects to other building, (Seriously, Mediterana is huge! This place is consisted of 2 main gigantic buildings!) and the other one is aesthetically lit up a pathway. Walking down here after a few sauna sessions, it gave me such an illusion as if I'm in a heaven or paradise. I must say, this place is just magnificent and an ultimate healing spa heaven.
In Mediterana, there are more than 16 different types of saunas, cooling pools and relaxation room with reclining chairs/sofas are literally everywhere! You definitely need a whole day to fully enjoy this paradise. I had a blast by experiencing so many variations of aufguss sessions and ceremonies taken in the sauna rooms!
二階から見下ろした屋外のプール部分。パープルのライトアップはととのい用プールで温度は25度くらいと少し冷たいと感じる程度。水色のライトアップ部分は温水プール。当たり前ですが、こちらも両方とも裸でございます。（夜でたまたま人が泳いでなかったのでパシャりと一枚撮れました）今回のドイツサウナで知ったこと、全裸でのプールはめちゃ気持ちいってこと。裸で感じる水の中での浮遊感って、とにかく開放感が半端ないのです。混浴で裸という文化に慣れていない人種には抵抗感の方が強いのかもしれないけど、「郷に入れば号に従え」、やってみるとめちゃ気持ちいし、気づいたらそんなことは忘れてしまうんですよね。実際、水色部分の温水プールに水着で入ってきたカップルは、スタッフから即注意受けてました。
These pictures were taken from the 2nd floor where all the resting rooms were located. The cooling pool seemed to be set about 25 degrees (approximately 77 Fahrenheit) so that it was pleasing temperature for the cooldown on the winter day. Even it was Day 3 for us to be in the co-ed naked sauna environment, honestly, it was still kind of odd for me to see both males and females blissfully swimming and floating in the pools. Yet, they looked so happy!!! so I tried it. While floating in the water being naked, I totally got the blissful sensation. That's one of the moments that it's hard to describe, yet it was absolutely magical and euphoric.
ヒマラヤソルト岩塩のサウナ。このサウナはドアとサウナベンチ以外は、全て岩塩！しかも一つ一つの岩塩の大きさがこれまでにみたことのない大きさのブロックで、「この部屋どんだけお金注ぎ込まれたんやろ？？？」という超資本主義的な疑問が湧いてしまうほどの贅沢なサウナでした。この部屋でもアウフグースがあるということで喜び勇んで体験しにいったのですが、タオルパフォーマンスではなく、完全なメディテーションクラスでした。サウナルームの真ん中に瞑想用具が一式揃えられ、ベテランっぽいスタッフの男性がテンシャ（小さいシンバルのようなもの）やシンギングボール（チーンと音をならず仏具のようなもの）などを使って深い瞑想へと誘ってくれました。サウナ室で瞑想セレモニーを行うあたり、、、ドイツのサウナは、スタイルにとらわれることなく「究極のリラクゼーション」＆「お客様を喜ばせるエンターテイメント」を追求しているということを実感したのでした。
The last one is Himalayan Salt room. Except for the door and benches in this sauna room was built by huge blocks of Himalayan salt! I personally have never seen this many of the large chunk salt blocks before and it made me wonder how much it'd costed to make the luxury room. Anyways, the room somehow
